An Advent to renewables with David Reid
Juni 4, 2023Renewable Energy Development in Bangladesh | Till April 2020 | Report: Trade Harbor
Bangladesh government has targeted to achieve 40,000 Megawatt by 2030 from both renewable & non-renewable energy sources
Till April 2020 Total Power Generation Capacity = 21,875.15 MW (Including Off-Grid RE)
Government is now eyeing a target of generating 10% of its power from renewable resources by 2020
Bangladesh added 626.74 Megawatt of renewable generating capacity till 2019 which 2.87% of the total power generation
so, there is a gap which is 7.13% that government need to achieve by the end of 2020
The good news is that another 2,508.08 MW renewable energy is in Pipeline
Solar contributed 61.6%, while Wind contributed 0.5% respectively, Hydro capacity contributed till 2019 by 37.8%, and Biomass & Biogas to Electricity both grew by 0.2%
Renewables’ expansion was slower from the declaration of the government to harness 10% from renewable energy since 2013
The reason for being slower is the availability of suitable land near the national grid connectivity substations. Also arranging such a big land from so many landowners who share the project land is very difficult
However, with the continuous effort from both govt. & private sector, these problems are about to solve recently
Despite all the hindering’s, Total renewable power growth outpaced fossil fuel growth by a factor of 2.6, continuing renewable energy’s dominance in power expansion for the seventh time in the decade
**How can we accelerate renewable energy deployment in Bangladesh? **
