A Wild Idea: The APA and Science Behind Carbon Credits
New York’s Adirondack Park is larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier, Grand Canyon, and Great Smokies National Parks combined. It is one of the largest unbroken deciduous forests on earth, with a thousand miles of streams and rivers, hundreds of lakes, and lofty peaks.
Amazingly, most of the land within the park is privately owned, and 85 million people live within a day’s drive. Yet the Adirondacks remain largely undeveloped. How did that happen?
Join us in exploring the creation of the Adirondack Park Agency 50 years ago and the impact it has had on the development of the park over the years. We will explore the rich diversity of the park through carbon credits and carbon sequestration. What is it and why is it crucial to defining the park today?

Michael DiNunzio, conservation ecologist and author of “The Adirondack Wildguide.” He has worked as a naturalist for the Adirondack Park Agency, the Adirondack Nature Conservancy, the Adirondack Council, and Protect The Adirondacks. He lives in Plattsburgh, NY.
Justin M.Miller, president of the Association of Consulting Foresters and the founder and President of Green Timber Consulting Foresters, which serves clients throughout the Upper Great Lakes region. He specializes in forest carbon inventory design, implementation, and reporting.
Jon Leibowitz, Executive Director of the Northeast Wilderness Trust, which protects and conserves natural areas throughout the region from its offices in Montpelier, Vermont . He has worked in the field of private land conservation since graduating from law school in 2011. The Northeast Wilderness Trust currently protects 58,500 acres.

He is the former President of the Finger Lakes Land Trust and current President of The Cornell Daily Sun. He lives with his wife, Tania Werbizky, in Ithaca, NY.
