As African countries set up the legal framework to benefit from the carbon market, a community from the Northern part of Kenya is reaping from a decade long conservation effort, that earned them 36 million shillings. The Northern Kenya Rangelands carbon project, which involved the rehabilitation of grasslands used for grazing received high praise at the Cop27 summit, setting the stage for more African countries to consider carbon offsets. Laura Otieno visited the vast Il Ngwesi conservancy in Isiolo and Laikipia counties and documented the direct benefits of carbon credits.
