Deep Dive Workshop: Renewable Power Based totally Sector Coupling (Arranged through KEA)

Asia and the Pacific is one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change risks and is also by far the largest CO2 emitter in the world, accounting for more than half of the global emissions. To decarbonize the country’s economy and improve its energy security, the government of Korea attaches its high priority to substantially increasing the share of renewable energy sources by setting a goal of producing 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Likewise, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is committed to increasing the share of renewable energy sources in its total primary energy supply to 23 percent by 2025, up from 9.4 percent in 2014.

Meanwhile, the concept of sector coupling is being applied across the world with its particular focus on increased use of renewable electricity in all energy consuming sectors including industry, agriculture, transportation, and residential heating and cooling through integration of energy supply and consumption with the aim of increasing the share of renewable energy in these sectors.

In collaboration with ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), KEA intends to organize this deep dive work (DDW) on renewable energy-based sector coupling during the Asia Clean Energy Forum 2022.
