Finances 2022: Analysts say permitting carbon offsets may just power decarbonisation, create new jobs

As part of Singapore’s ambitious plan to reach net-zero emissions by or around mid-century, the government will implement a five-fold hike in the carbon tax to up to S$80 dollars a tonne by 2030, while also allowing for companies to offset up to 5% of that tax with carbon credits. Analysts are calling the plan “progressive” and “visionary”. If done right, they said the move could drive decarbonisation and create new jobs.
