Open Properties Australia Episode 12 Season 7: AIKO’s ABC Generation Powering Sustainable House

What a season! Open Homes Australia finished on a high note with a step inside the renovated home of Jon Dee. As one of Australia’s most prolific environmentalists and activists, Jon’s home features many simple upgrades and switches that make his home sustainable. One such feature was AIKO’s NEOSTAR solar panels with their All Back Contact (ABC) technology, installed by Solar Juice. Roshan explored these incredible panels whilst perusing the gorgeous home in the NSW Blue Mountains.

Sustainable home for a life dedicated to improving the environment

Not many people can say that they have been integral to Australia’s shift to a cleaner future. As the co-founder of Planet Ark with Pat Cash and One Tree Per Child with Olivia Newton-John, Jon Dee has overseen countless initiatives to better improve Australia, and the world’s, future. Thanks to Jon’s campaigning, Australians have waved goodbye to incandescent lightbulbs and phosphates in our laundry detergents. He has been integral to the end of single-use plastic bags as well as microbeads in our products. It’s no wonder that he approached the renovation of his Katoomba home with the same sustainable and energy-efficient mindset.

With limited funds, Jon and his wife transformed their Blue Mountains house into a cozy home. Renovated over 20 years, the old corporate lodge has seen many small and large changes that reduce energy bills with minimal impact on the environment. The incorporation of an entryway mudroom allows the blistery outside air to remain separated from the rest of the house as you enter. Double-glazed windows were added where the budget allowed and thick hemp curtains were added to the remaining single-paned windows. These curtains act as insulation and are a cheap and innovative way to reduce bills on a budget.

One of the most integral parts of Jon’s sustainable project has been the addition of solar. AIKO’s NEOSTAR residential solar panels were chosen for their perfect match to the harsh and challenging conditions Jon’s home experiences, in addition to their incredible efficiency and high power output. The AIKO system replaced an old, existing system that consistently failed to provide the energy efficiency that Jon and his wife sought. Recommended by installers Solar Juice, the AIKO NEOSTAR panels ticked all of the boxes that Jon threw at them!

AIKO solar panels: Why they are among the best for Australian homes

Aussies are often faced with the impossible task of selecting the right solar panel for their home. With countless manufacturers and models available, finding the right one is paramount to ensuring that you get the most out of your investment. Let’s take a look at why AIKO was chosen by Jon and why they should be your manufacturer of choice.

Partial shading

Partial shading is a challenge that many Australian homes face when installing solar. Nearby shading from trees, rooftop structures, and even bird poop, can all drastically reduce the performance of your solar panels. This can be concerning for your investment – with many Aussies wondering why their system does not perform as expected. Your solar system will only be as strong as its weakest panel, which is why AIKO’s panels stand above the rest. Where a regular panel would dip significantly in power production, AIKO’s technology allows the panels to produce 30% or more power when partially shaded. This will mean that your AIKO panels will save you more money over their lifespan compared to other solar panels.

Performing at high temperatures

AIKO’s groundbreaking ABC technology is a perfect match for Australia’s unruly climate. Solar panels that overheat not only produce less power but pose a fire risk. While the mercury soars during the hot months for many Australian states, AIKO’s solar panels keep their cool. The high-temperature-resistant technology maintains a consistent performing temperature for the AIKO panels. This means that your panels will not only generate more electricity but are also much safer.
