The State of Water in Central Wisconsin through Invoice DeVita
Have you ever wondered about our water quality in Portage County and Central Sands area? Our speaker, starting the New Year is Bill DeVita, an environmental chemist serving as the laboratory manager of the Water and Analysis Lab at UW-Stevens Point. His 34 years of professional experience includes 29 years of service at UWSP where his ares of interest include pesticides and pharmaceuticals in surface and ground water. His studies began with Dr. Byron Shaw in the early 1980s who was investigating aldicarb in groundwater in Central Sands.
Since then, Bill has worked for the US EPA on the National Dioxin Study. He returned to Stevens Point to work with Dr. Shaw managing the Trace Organics Lab. Bill has also mentored numerous students, conducted and participated in research to evaluate water quality across Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest, and manages the WEAL, whose mission is to provide professional opportunities to undergraduates and graduate students, provide outreach services to the residents of the state, and conduct research on emerging contaminants. Bill also serves on theTown of Hull Water Resource Committee, which advises the town board.
Bill discussed past and present and emerging water quality issues in Portage Count and the Central Sands on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 at the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street in Stevens Point at 7:00 p.m.
